Pop Culture – Pokemon X and Y news breakdown.

Days ago, I read the announcement that another Pokemon X and Y news item was forthcoming.

Four new Pokemon have also leaked from the pages of CoroCoro, which is a Japanese periodical aimed at younger readers. Other updates include limited variations in hair colour and skin tone, which be changed by the player. Customisation of the players avatar has finally reached the Pokemon games.

What’s most interesting is the new region. Here’s a small picture of the world map. It’s a tiny image of the world map we can expect to explore in October when the games are released worldwide.

The new region resembles France, albeit at a slight angle. The Map of France is from Open Street maps at http://www.openstreetmap.org/

This image is almost final confirmation that Karosu, the name of the new region, is based on France.

An image of what could be the new rival for the next games also emerged:

In regards to the four new Pokemon, a panda, a goat, a robin, and an electric lizard are now a part of the expanding collection of pocket monsters.

  • Yanchamu, the panda, is a fighting type, and learns a new attack: final remark, which lowers an opponents stats, but forces the player to switch to a different Pokemon.
  • Gohgohto is the goat, and is a new grass type that the player can ride in cities and towns.
  • Yayakoma is a new normal and flying type Pokemon based on a Robin. Deviant art user Dragonith has already created some clever crossover art with the bat Pokemon Crobat.
  • Finally, new Pokemon Elikiteru is a normal and electric type, which I thought was interesting. This means that Elikiteru can resist ghost attacks, but is weak to fighting moves, in addition to the ground type weakness all electric Pokemon deal with.

Until the next news item, speculation on the new games continues, such as what type Sylveon will turn out to be.
