Ronja the Robber’s Daughter, a children’s book written by Astrid Lindgren, received an anime adaptation in 2014. Lindgren’s book received previous adaptations, namely a 1984 fantasy film in Sweedish, a 1994 musical in German, and a subsequent German stage production that ran from 1993 to 2004. An English voice cast dubbing of the anime is set to debut on Amazon prime on January 27.
What sets this anime apart, somewhat, as unique is animation from Studio Ghibli.
The animation, co-produced with Polygon Pictures, results in anime that resembles Studio Ghibli’s work on the Ni No Kuni: Wrath of the White Witch role playing game for Playstation 3. With a Sequel to the first Ni No Kuni title on the way in 2017, this might be a good chance to see the studio work their animation skills in a similar, but different, context.
